Commercial Litigation
We handle a broad range of civil and commercial litigation matters, including land use disputes, copyright, trade name and trademark infringement, corporate, partnership, commercial, personal injury, employment discrimination challenges, defamation, unfair trade, unfair competition and contract disputes. Ms. Leahy-Fucheck has handled matters in each of these areas, first as an Assistant United States Attorney and then during the five years she was of counsel to Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, L.L.P.  At Leahy & DeSmet we work closely with our clients to develop effective case management strategies. While we always pursue our clients’ interests aggressively in any dispute, we also assist clients in selecting the most cost-effective form of dispute resolution available.

  Employment
The employer-employee relationship, vital to all businesses, is governed by an increasingly complex body of federal, state, local and administrative procedures and law.  As a woman owned law firm, Leahy & DeSmet, LLC, brings sensitivity, awareness, and experience to diversity issues.  We take a proactive practical approach to resolving employment disputes when they arise and advise clients on best practices to prevent such problems.

Andrea Leahy-Fucheck has defended numerous federal employment discrimination matters under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and has extensive experience in handling state court matters.  Ms. Leahy-Fucheck also brings a thorough knowledge of the Maryland Administrative Procedures Act, applicable to proceedings before the Maryland Human Relations Commission (MHRC) and the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH).  Agency proceedings and administrative law will continue to figure prominently in resolving unfair employment practices claims.
